
After reading the first 3 chapters of 1984, I think that it
is a very interesting book and it is extremely gripping.
I find that the first few pages of the book were slightly
boring however, after I got through the first chapter I
was extremely interested and the book really seemed to
grab my attention. After reading the first 3 chapters, I
read the Summary and the Analysis where I picked out
words and analytical phrases that I did not understand
or had not heard of before.
The new words that I learnt were:
Dilapidated – in a state of disrepair
Totalitarian – a system of government
Loathsome – causing hatred or disgust
Decrees – an official order that has a force of law
Impoverished – to make someone or an area poor
Orators – A public speaker
Protagonist – leading part in a play or movie
Omniscience – knowing everything
Festering – to become septic
Entity – Something with distinct and independent existence
Irrevocably – to be changed or reversed
Touting – attempt to sell
Fervent – displaying a passionate intensity
Grotesque – comically ugly
Repression – forcing someone to do something
Unfathomable – incapable of being fully understood
Repositories – A place where something special is stored in large quantities
Idyllic – perfect, ideal
Instilled – gradually and firmly establish
Orthodoxy – authorised or generally accepted theory – doctrine
